Ask me if I scare
Music, art, theater, fortune-telling, assorted other spookiness and a contest for the best costume in the East Village will be part of the Theater for the New City's 25th annual Village Halloween Costume Ball.

So you want to do something fun and festive this Halloween but you're too
old for trick or treating, your apartment is way too small for a party and
you're not thrilled with the idea of standing for hours and craning your
neck to get a glimpse of the parade along Sixth Avenue? You've got a costume
ready and you think it's pretty cool, but where to go?

A solution will be
waiting at the Theater For The New City 's 25th Annual Village Halloween
Costume Ball, where there'll be a plethora of music, performance, food and
excitement. Happening both outside the theater space and within the TNC's
spacious environs, the merriment begins at 4 o'clock outdoors where there'll be
bluegrass and jazz bands, fire eaters, jugglers, storyweavers and stilt
dancers.
Beginning at 7:30 inside the TNC, you can dance to the Brazilian
jazz pop sounds of Paprika, among other musicians, and satisfy your munchies
at the Witches' Cauldron, which provides a grand buffet consisting of
affordable culinary delights from neighborhood restaurants. Beginning around
8 p.m. will be two continuously running cabarets featuring performers such as
Penny Arcade, Steve Ben Israel, Epstein and Hassan, Wise Guise, Mark
Marcante, Bina Sharif, Church of Betty, Carmen Mathis, Bingo Gazingo and
many many more.
In the lobby there will be a Wiccan psychic reader,
astrology and numerology, throwing of the I Ching, Hellsouls, Paganini
apparition, belly dancers and trapeze artist June Abrams. The theater will
be transformed into a Halloween fantasia
by leading theatrical scenarists, sculptors and artists. There will be a
costume contest at 11:30 where winnners in twelve individual categories
will receive one-year passes to TNC and a bottle of Moet and Chandon
champagne.
Costumes or formal wear are required and admission is $15.
